The Green Smoothie


As I progressed through my pregnancy and the nausea subsided (it actually never really went away!), my cravings went from basically spaghetti bolognese to fresh fruits and veggies. I found myself craving ice cold green smoothies. The fresh bright flavors made me feel so good! With every blend, I was able to better perfect the recipe.

Ultimately, what tastes good to me may not taste good to you, but if you drown your smoothie ingredients in orange juice you are adding a lot more sugar than you might intend and override the goodness this smoothie offers you.

Definitely make it your own, just keep that in mind! :) We are all guilty of those heavy-handed pours!!!


Equipment you will need:

  1. An awesome blender: You don’t need to spend a fortune on a blender, but I prefer a ‘smooth like butter’ texture which requires more power.

    My sister likes a chunky texture(god knows why), so a standard blender would work. But if you want smooth like I do, I would recommend either a Vitamix, Blendtec or Nutribullet Rx. I’ve used all of these and I know they work.

  3. A straw that is either reusable or compostable. I LOVE using a bamboo straw. Reminds me of drinking my smoothies by the pool in Bali at Soulshine!!! Check out some straws here.

Okay, now lets get to the actual smoothie!

The Ultimate Green Smoothie:


(1 serving or 2 servings if you like to share)


1/2 cup fresh or frozen pineapple*

2 large handfuls of spinach

1/4 avocado

1 inch peeled cucumber

1/2 peeled lime

Splash of orange juice (to taste)

Distilled water

Prep time: 5min

Make time: 2min


Add all ingredients to blender. I find putting frozen of harder pieces in first will blend easier. Blend until smooth.

*If I use fresh pineapple, I will add ice cubes to make it nice and cold.
